Obsession 25" f/5 Dobsonian Reflector
with a New, Dual Display DSC Computer Interface

There were a couple of reasons why I loaded up the 25" to go out viewing last night.  The main reason was to see how the DL System from Infinity Scopes would work on the Obsession. The next was to view Mars. We are in the middle of the desert Southwest's monsoon season and I really wasn't expecting to do much observing, only hoping to catch a glimpse of Mars between cloud banks. The clouds cooperated and allowed for some decent views of Mars. But the greatest part of the evening was using the DL System on the Obsession. The main computer module (right) and one of the two targeting modules (left). The Targeting Module is really neat because it has LEDs that indicate where you need to move the scope. Once you get a green dot in the center then you've got your object.

What really makes the DL System desirable on a large Dob is the capability for a second display. The second Targeting Module is located to the left of the focuser in this picture. I was a bit hesitant to put the Targeting Module right next to the eyepiece because of of light "pollution" from the LEDs. Instead, the intensity wasn't an issue, and I didn't even have to make use of the variable intensity adjustment. The ability to have a display on the ground and one up near the eyepiece was absolutely fantastic. This link will take you to Infinity Scopes' web page on the DL System.
