Canon 20Da Digital SLR for Astrophotography

Here are the results of some of my first attempts at taking astrophotos with the Canon EOS 20Da. First night was in my backyard with the Moon at 83% phase in Pisces. Please note that all images have been reduced in size from the original 3504 x 2336 image size.

 

The Moon and the Pleiades, 0317 UT April 2, 2006 (local time = GMT -7 hrs). Canon EOS 20Da with 24-70mm EF lens at 70 mm, f/5.6, 1 sec at ISO 400, noise reduction off.

The Moon. Prime focus through NP-127, f/5.2. 1/400 sec at ISO 100, noise reduction off.

M42, The Orion Nebula. Prime focus through NP-127, f/5.2. Single 45 second exposure at ISO 800 with noise reduction on.                        M45, The Pleiades. Prime focus through NP-127, f/5.2. Single 60 second exposure at ISO 800 with noise reduction on.

Flame and Horse Head Nebulae. Prime focus through NP-127, f/5.2. Single 60 second exposure at ISO 800 with noise reduction on.

Same shot with post image processing to decrease brightness by 15% and increase contrast by 5%.
